Dry Ice

Dry ice is the solid form of Carbon Dioxide ( CO2) comprising two Oxygen atoms and one Carbon atom.It is colorless, slightly acidic with a sour odor. It is non-flammable, The low temperature and direct sublimation to a gas makes dry ice an effective coolant. Dry ice sublimes at −78.5 °C (−109.3 °F) at earth atmospheric pressures. This extreme cold makes the solid CO2 an ideal coolant. It is colder than normal water Ice and leaves no residue as it changes state hence it is called Dry Ice. The most common use of dry ice is to preserve food. It is used for packaging and transporting of Ice cream, for processing and transporting fresh meat, seafood, marine products, to transport temperature sensitive chemicals, to keep freshness of flowers and for Ice blasting ( cryogenic cleaning ) as Industrial applications.Dry ice is typically produced in two standard forms: blocks and cylindrical pellets.

Liquid Nitrogen Operated IQF Freezing Tunnel

IQF stands for “individually quick frozen.”
IQF foods are notable for the fact that each individual piece of food is frozen separately from all the others.It is the latest technolgy where instead of chilled air blast, Liquid Nitrogen (Boiling point- 196 deg celsius) is sprayed on the products.

Examples of IQF foods are fruits like blueberries, strawberries and peaches, vegetables like asparagus, soyabeans, mushrooms, pumpmkins, corn, peas, marine products like prawn,shrimp, tuna, pomfret, ribbon, sole etc, poultry products like chicken, meat, delicattesan etc. The way foods are frozen in the IQF method involves sending the individual food items on a sort of conveyor belt through a freezer where conveyor is allowed to pass under Liquid Nitrogen sprayer that freezes the item very quickly. Because the food items are separate when they go in, they stay separated after they’ve been frozen.This is the technology whereby virtually all the properties of foodstuff can be preserved. The important feature of this technology is ultra rapid freezing to a very low temparetures of -30 deg to -40 deg celsius to halt the activities of miscrorganisms that cause decay and deterioration. With IQF using Liquid Nitrogen it is now possible to preserve and store fruits, vegetables, meat and poultry products, fish and marine products for almost 2 years without compromising on taste, flavor, nutitional valus and loss of vItamins.
